William U. Smith, 83, of Jackson Street, Cumberland passed away Monday. He was the husband of Beverly (Asting) Smith. They were happily married for 55 years. Born in Los Angeles, CA, he was the son of the late William and Hazel (McMillan) Smith. Mr. Smith served in the US Navy during WWII. He was a Design Engineer for Northrup for many years retiring in 1997. Besides his wife he is survived by a daughter, Debra Leveille of Maine; a son, Mark Smith of Providence; seven grandchildren and a brother James Smith of Colorado. The funeral will be held Saturday, July 31, 2010 at 8am from the O'NEILL Funeral Home, 3102 Mendon Road, Cumberland, followed by a Burial of the Dead and Requiem Eucharist at 9am in Saint John Episcopal Church, 1505 Mendon Road, Cumberland. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery, North Attleboro. Visiting hours Friday 5-8pm.
