John L. “Leo” Barton, 91, formerly of Amity Street, Providence died at Elmhurst Extended Care Facility, Tuesday, April 29, 2008. He was the loving husband of Sarah J. “Sally” (Geary) Barton for the last 67 years. Born in Providence he was son of the late Edward J. and Amy (Collins) Barton. He was a Toolmaker for Brown & Sharpe Mfg. for many years before retiring. He was an avid Gardner and enjoyed every minute with his family. Besides his wife he leaves 7 children, Patricia A. Anthony of Sierra Vista, AZ, Joan L. Cook of Coventry, RI, Thomas G. Barton, of Woodside, NY, Edward J. Barton of Wantagh, Long Island, NY, Pauline M. Barton of Lincoln, RI, Nancy J. McEnery of Cranston, RI, and Leo J. Barton of Fredrick, MD. He also leaves 17 Grandchildren and 12 Great grandchildren. He was the brother of Mary E. McConnell of Providence and the late George E. Barton and Dorothy Ellery. Mr. Barton was a member of the Blessed Sacrament Church and a former member of the Immaculate Conception Parish. The funeral will be held Saturday at 9 am from the Hoey-Arpin-Williams-King Funeral Home, 168 Academy Avenue with a Mass of Christian at Burial in Blessed Sacrament Church at 10 am. Visiting Hours Friday 5-8 pm. Relatives and Friends are invited. In lieu of flowers donations to the Elmhurst Extended Care, 50 Maude Street, Providence, RI 02908 would be deeply appreciated.
